Cardiovascular diseases in pregnancy - a current overview

Even though, there have been many advances in maternal medical care and fertility treatments, the presence of cardiovascular disease has a significant impact on pregnancy. Congenital heart diseases, valvular heart diseases, chronic hypertension and cardiomyopathies are linked to increased risk of maternal as well as fetal morbidity and mortality. The management of the pre-existing heart diseases in pregnancy has been challenging for cooperation of cardiologists and gynecologists, in order to improve maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. This overview offers a summary of the recent knowledge of pregnancy-related cardiovascular diseases in women.
